The Book of George: The Life and Art of George Sawchuk is the first opportunity to examine and expand upon the legacy of the Fanny Bay based artist since he died. The Story of Terry Sawchuk far transcends the game of hockey. His accomplishments during the Original Six era are legendary - several of his goaltending records still stand after more than 30 years.

But beyond the NHL arenas and dressing rooms, he was a brooding, violent man /5(11). The Wacky Woods - Fanny Bay, BC, Canada || George Sawchuk: Outdoor Art Exhibit What this piece speaks to is a mystery to me. According to the locals George and his wife Pat were well-known to welcome everyone in, and given his outwardly friendly nature.

Interwoven in the book are interviews with Sawchuk's wife, a couple of engaging surviving former teammates, and most obvious, research done in newspaper "morgues". It is written chronologically, highlighting season achievements.

Of most interest to me are the tales told by his wife. Sawchuk was a full-blown dysfunctional alcoholic/5(17).
